Lisa Goldman Rosas, PhD, Assistant Professor, Epidemiology and Population Health and Medicine (Primary Care & Population Health), Stanford University

Research Description: Dr. Rosas currently leads the Food for Health Equity Lab where she focuses on research to develop and rigorously evaluate innovative approaches to prevent and manage obesity-related chronic conditions with the ultimate goal of promoting health equity. To this end, she partners with community health centers, community-based organizations, food organizations, and other stakeholders to co-design research that leads to effective and scalable programs for chronic disease prevention and management that promotes health equity. She uses mixed methods including hybrid clinical trials that utilize implementation science frameworks to examine effectiveness as well as potential for implementation and dissemination. A primary focus of this work is developing and evaluating Food is Medicine interventions, such as produce prescriptions and medically supportive food, for diverse communities. She leads three large-scale studies of FIM: 1) Vida Sana y Completa Trial, a comparative effectiveness study funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute of medically supportive groceries for Latina women at risk of diabetes; 2) ADELANTE Trial, a randomized controlled trial funded by the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities to examine the effectiveness of medically supportive groceries for Latinx adults with diabetes; 3) Recipe4Health, a quasi-experimental study of a real-world implementation of a produce prescription program that is funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney. They also conduct several pilot studies to further examine the effectiveness and scalability of FIM across diverse demographic and clinical populations and geographies. The Food for Health Equity Lab benefits from the direction and leadership of a Community Advisory Board that provides strategic direction for our work. The Food for Health Equity Lab includes three affiliated faculty, two PhD-level staff leaders, bilingual/bicultural staff, and students. Dr. Rosas collaborates extensively with many members of the NORC.
