Michael P. Snyder, PhD, Stanford W. Ascherman Professor, Chair, Department of Genetics and Director, Center for Genomics and Personalized Medicine

Research Description: Dr. Snyder’s lab uses and invents a variety of omics approaches including genome sequencing, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, DNA methylation, and microbiome assays for the analysis of complex systems. For example, they carried out the first longitudinal profiling of individuals using multi-omics technologies (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.) to track human health, and they also demonstrated using wearable sensors can be used for monitoring health and detecting illness presymptomatically. Dr. Snyder’s interest in metabolism has extended to studies that monitor serum parameters using his lab's programs for dynamic monitoring of metabolites including work they have done to examine multiple glucotypes and aging parameters. The lab is fundamentally interested in how obesity affects NORC measurables and how specific nutritional factors affect metabolism in obese versus normal patients. Dr. Snyder will direct the NORC P&F Award Program with Dr. Sun H. Kim. He collaborates extensively with many members of the NORC.
