Philip S Tsao, PhD, Professor of Medicine (Cardiovascular Medicine), Stanford University School of Medicine; Associate Chief of Staff for Precision Health, VA Palo Alto Health Care System
Research Description: Dr. Tsao has continuously sought to generate knowledge related to cardiometabolic health and disease, with particular interest in the molecular mechanisms of inflammation, dyslipidemia, and insulin resistance. His laboratory has primarily focused on signaling pathways and how they regulate vascular function and transcription. For this line of investigation, the team has leveraged a variety of high-density data quantification tools and has gained significant experience in the analysis of large data sets to elucidate relevant biological pathways. They are committed to establishing and utilizing pertinent pre-clinical models of disease as well as the translation of this information to the clinical realm. To support our studies, close collaborations both within and outside of our local community have been established. In addition, Dr. Tsao helped lead the VA Million Veteran Program as Co-PI where they have recently completed the largest single cohort genome-wide association studies (GWAS) investigating BMI, Type 2 Diabetes, AAA, PAD and CAD. Dr. Tsao collaborates extensively with many members of the NORC.
