Tracey McLaughlin, MD, Professor, Department of Medicine/Endocrinology, Stanford University
Research Description: Dr. McLaughlin is a distinguished Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, Division of Endocrinology, with a robust academic background and a wealth of experience in the field of diabetes, obesity, and metabolism. Her clinical research includes many trials investigating the biological and clinical effects of GLP1 analogs, GLP1/GIP analogs, GLP1 antagonists, thiazolidinedioness, and dietary interventions to improve metabolic health. She manages a clinical research team and actively participates in team science at Stanford and beyond. She provides metabolically phenotyped and clinically controlled treatments to alter insulin resistance, promote weight loss, or lower glucose. The lab provides flash-frozen tissue samples and isolated preadipocytes and mature fat cells for functional tests, providing over 200 human adipose tissue biopsies annually plus banked tissue. Dr. McLaughlin’s specific interests include incretin biology and clinical effects of GLP1 agonists beyond weight loss, the role of adipocytes and regional fat on metabolic health, biology of post bariatric hypoglycemia, and identification of novel, patented targets for treatment, use of CGM to prevent type 2 diabetes and inform precision nutrition. Dr. McLaughlin collaborates extensively with many members of the NORC.
