Varvara Kirchner, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery, Department Surgery, Division of Abdominal Transplantation, Stanford University
Research Description: The overall goal of the Kirchner Laboratory to harness the potential of adult and induced pluripotent stem cells to promote organ regeneration and develop new minimally invasive methods to treat end-stage organ disease. We use ex vivo and in vivo models including normothermic machine perfusion to deliver stem cells and stem-cell stimulating biologics to diseased organs with marginal metabolic function with goal of optimizing native deceased organs and marginal organs for transplantation. To assess the impact of our interventions, we apply standard laboratory techniques as well as novel multiomics tools. Dr. Kirchner actively collaborates with NORC member, Dr. Ang LT.
